Hastings LDAPS Team

HASTINGS TEAMS

Engineering is still alive at Hastings School. What began two summers ago with Ruth S., Pam M., and Florence P. has expanded to six more teachers integrating physics and Legos into their curriculum. NASA continues to support this project.

Last Summer Jackie K., Jennifer S. received an intensive two weeks at Tufts University in Medford. They used Legos, physic principles and their computers with Labview software. Margie S., and Cindy Z. went to Tufts for a week's training. They learned how to construct WWW pages, and received Legos and motors for their classes.

This grant has brought together people from NASA, EDC, Tufts, Shady Hill School, and schools throughout the US It is our goal to involve all of the Hastings staff in designing lessons that integrate the existing curriculum, state standards and Legos with a bend toward physics. We are finding that it takes careful planning to design quality curriculum with this focus.

CURRICULUM PROJECTS

Jackie Kagey is a new addition to the team. One project involves balloon cars. Car by Jackie's class

Some team members who have done earlier projects are:
Pam Mountain, Ruth Sherman and Florence Poor, Barbara Lockwood.

Here are their Web pages describing some of the innovative work they have done in their classrooms:

Dr. Chris Rogers, at Tufts, maintains that page (and many more) on a server that belongs to NASA.

Just in case you're curious, LDAPS stands for Lego Data Acquisition and Prototyping System...
