Pictures
It is desirable to have a
collection of pictures cut from a variety of magazines. Good sources
are: Ebony, Essence, Cosmopolitan, and National Geographic. The
collection should include:
- Different Hair Styles -
i.e.: afro, braids, dreadlocks, pony tails, curls,
bangs.
- Different Hair Colors -
i.e.: brown, blonde, red, black, gray.
- Different Hair Textures
-i.e.: tightly curled, wavy, straight.
Hair Products
Most of these hair products can be
found in the ethnic section of your local pharmacy or beauty supply
store.
- Hair oil or pomade- used to
moisturize the scalp
- Hair curlers- either plastic
or sponge-barreled
- Afro comb- a wide, pick-like
comb
- Straightening comb- used for
heat pressing hair
- Shampoo- used to wash
hair
- Synthetic hair- a long package
of hair used for braiding
- Beads- plastic or wooden
ornaments strung on braids
- Rubber bands- used to keep
beads and/or braids in place
- Bobby pins- used to keep hair
or curlers in place
- Head tie or Handkerchief- used
to protect hair while sleeping
Mirrors
Use small, handheld, mirrors that
are safe for small children.
Dolls
Use ethnic dolls with a variety of
hair textures.
