  1. Why do you think the author chose this title?
  2. Is there any proof that Yvette and Mildred were really friends?
  3. How would you have reacted if you were Yvette? Mildred?

  1. Does the author's cultural background appear in the story? How?
  2. In what ways are the author's life experience revealed in the story? Give examples.
  3. Can you see the author's point of view in this story?

    Prepare an oral report about this author.

  4. Choose one passage from the story that best illustrates the author's point of view or cultural background. Practice reading this passage out loud before you present it.
  5. Create note cards, or a poster to share with the class what you have learned about the author. Practice your oral presentation of this information.
  6. Find other books or stories by this author to share with the class.
