All School Meeting - March 1st, 2002

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.... or does it?

Today's All School Meeting brought us plenty of singing, music, and student sharing. These cheerful first graders recited a fun poem called "Water Everywhere".

Some more poetry was shared by these two friends in second grade. Their poem was called "The Personable Porcupine"

Many students recognized the tune of "Sonatina in C Major" by Muzio Clemente. A challenging piece, this musician did a superb job!

One of our Hastings traditions is called "All School Challenge". A child will design a problem to solve and then share it with the student population. This young lady helped write an All School Challenge about Black History Month. Click here for the All School Challenge.

Julie, a former Hastings student, came back today to tell us about a special project she's begun called "Bring in the Music!" She's taking collections of new and used music CD's to help children undergoing chemotherapy at Boston Childrens' Hospital. Bring in the CD's and drop them off in the labeled box in our main lobby. Hastings children can help bring music to and lift the spirits of children with cancer. (Notice that Julie has participated in Girl Scouts long enough to earn the "Gold Award"!)

Our first Hastings student ever to have a birthday on February 29, this young man was born during a leap year. He was born on February 29, 1996 (a leap year), which means his birthday only comes around once every four years. Don't worry, he still has a wonderful celebration every year!

Mrs. Dacey sent to school a warm thank you to all the families who have so graciously sent her good wishes and a speedy recovery. She promises to be back April 1st and we can not wait.

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

To simply say "thank you" is such an understatement! The incredibly generous outpouring of support has meant a great deal to me and my family. The beautiful cards and letters, fruit baskets and fun baskets, exquisite flowers, and thoughtful phone calls have sped on my recovery.

So I say....Nothing like all those good vibes to get me up and running! Looking forward to returning to Hastings on April 1 (no fooling!).

Love,
Muriel Dacey

Thanks to a handy and generous Hastings family, our school has a newly constructed, super-durable playground box. It's chock full of balls, jump ropes, hoola hoops, skip-it ropes, and jai-alai. For the students who prefer board games every so often, we also have Boggle, Mancala, Trouble, Jenga, chess and checkers. This playground box has been a great success so far.

These two fifth graders gratiously spent their recess time cleaning, organizing, and taking inventory of the playground box contents. Thanks, girls!
