Hastings 5th graders showed their creativity and organization
skills at the annual Invention Convention. Students worked in
teams to define their problem and to design their solutions. They
then built, tested and refined their prototypes before building
their final products. Among the many inventions were organizers
for sports gears, papers and homework, 'convenience gadgets' to
turn lights on and off or get a drink of water without getting
out of bed, gadgets for pets such as an automatic hamster feeder
and pet toy retriever. Take a look at 5th graders and their
