Sargent Camp “Trust”

We are on the bus going to Sargent camp. It’s been 2 hours. The only thing you hear on the bus is “Are we there yet. Are we there yet” Until we see a sign that says: SARGENT CAMP The bus turns into a LOUD ROAR “Yeah! Ahh Yes”

At Sargent Camp you must trust kids. If you’re on the nitro pit or leech pit and you’re flying across with the rope in your hand and the wind is blowing in your face you need to trust the spotters or you’re wet in mud. Also if you’re on the top of the platform to go down the zip line you must trust your spotters otherwise you would never get your harness off. Okay I’m ready to jump off the 40 foot high platform. “Spotters ready?” You have to say this to make sure it’s okay to jump off. “Ready,” repeated the spotters. “ZIPPING”, “Zip away”. “Okay ready 3,2,1 AHH. I’m jumping off a bridge. It feels like bungy jumping. On my 3rd time past the ladder spotters came. They pushed me up on the ladder “Come on grab my hand”. I took Mr. Roger’s hand. He took off my harness.” AH! That feels better”.

One of our trust activities was falling off a ladder and trusting your teammates or group members to catch you. In this trust activity you start by 2 people catching the person that’s falling about 3 inches from the hands. Then you fall about a foot from the hands. You keep on moving down until you get to the 9th Level where you fall and your group members catch you and bring you down to the ground. Then your ready for the ladder! When you get to the ladder you and your group will form a zipper position. One of your group members goes on the ladder (either the first or second step). First she has to say these commands “Spotters ready,” Then we would repeat “Ready” She said (Falling “we repeat “Fall way”. Then she falls. “AHH”. I’m ready to go on now. “Spotters ready” “Ready!” “Falling” “Fall away” “You know I’m not quite sure about this”. It’s really fun you just have to jump that’s the hardest part. “Well okay. Falling “”Fall away” “3,2,1,AHHHHHH.””Ohh my that was so fun. Can I do it again

When you are spotting you have to get in your spotting position. When you’re in your spotting position you have your knees bent, hands out, and you always look at the person that you’re spotting. When you’re spotting the person falling off the ladder your hands are in a zipper position like this. Then the person falls, wee.

So it’s the the last day. We are eating lunch. There’s a mob scence of bags and luggage outside. Lunch is over, we bring the luggage to the busses. It’s time to go. We say are good-byes and sing out last songs. The bus starts. You hear this loud “Bye”. We get back to school and everything is quiet until you hear the moaning the next day from the students when they have to write in their journal.
