Honesty

Being a good friend is important however being honest to both yourself and your friends is more important. In fact being honest is one of the best qualities a person can have. Sometimes it can be difficult to be honest and it could even cause more work between yourself and your peers. Being honest relates in everything we do in life, which can apply to even the simplest tasks of drinking a glass of water. Honesty should not be taken lightly. In Sargent Camp, it was important to be honest.

Honesty in Sargent Camp was expected from all. This behavior was to be expected in each of our answers and attitudes. Telling stories or fibs would end up hurting our group as well as us. What I mean by that is no lying. One of the treats we could receive as a group was a punch drink. However, at Sargent camp it was important to follow directions. The counselors wanted us student’s to drink plenty of water each day. We needed to drink water so we would stay hydrated. If we all had drunk our water, our group would receive a punch drink. If someone were not honest in their answer, and did not drink the required amount of water, the consolers would eventually find out. Both the group and the student would feel bad because no one would get the punch drink. Thank goodness, no one lied in our group and we all got the punch drink. Sometimes telling the truth is hard, but it is always the best way to be.

Being honest means being in touch with your feeling and being able to share them with others. At times, it can be very hard to do. Sometimes people are scared to share their feelings. Kids sometimes get embarrassed about what they are going to say. They might feel is unimportant and dumb. Being honest with oneself means speaking your thoughts and questions. There is no dumb question or new idea.

At Sargent camp is was important to be honest. At night when we were sleeping, I was a little scared. I think some of the other kids were as well. No one ever said anything to each other. If we were honest and shared our feelings, we all would have had a better night sleep. Sometimes being honest could mean you are also taking a chance. In some cases, honesty could mean hurting yourself or friends feelings. Most of the time though when you tell the truth is it for a reason. Usually, when it is the truth even if it hurts it always works out in the end.

As I stated earlier, being honest is the best quality to have. It truly makes you a better person and friend. There is an unspoken trust that goes along with an honest person. What we all need to remember is if were honest we would expect our friends, teachers and classmates to be honest as well. Honesty works in two ways. It gives you both hurt and praise. Most importantly, it gives you trust.
