For the last two summers, educators from three institutions (Hastings, Curtis Guild Elementary School in East Boston, and Eliot-Pearson Dept. of Child Study at Tufts University) have come together to develop a curriculum resource guide focused on the work of a particular artist/illustrator. Last summer, the resource guide was developed from the body of work of author/illustrator Ed Young. Ed Young is the illustrator of more than seventy childrens' books, fifteen of which he also wrote.

Activities described in the resource guide are designed to foster an understanding of the following principles:

• understand that individuals can retell tales in their own way
• learn to understand and appreciate cultures from which tales come
• develop a deeper appreciation of how illustrations are created
