Have you heard a frog sing yet? Soon Lexington's amphibians will be waking up to greet spring. The Citizens for Lexington Conservation (CLC) and Lexington Schools Elementary Science Program is sponsoring a Spring Survey of Frogs and Toads. All members of the community are invited to report the sights and sounds of amphibians in Lexington.

World wide, amphibians seem to be on the decline. Is this true for Lexington? Information about the presence of frogs and toads this season is valuable in helping us establish a baseline. Perhaps you have lived near a wetland for a number of years and can offer your opinion as to whether a change in the number of frogs is taking place.

In response to interest in documenting the number of different species of plants and animals (biodiversity) in Lexington, the CLC is enlisting the help of students and interested community members to report amphibian observations. Please remember never to disturb an animal in its habitat! If you would like to help, please look and listen and report your amphibian findings.

Before you head out in search of Lexington frogs and toads, you will probably want to educate yourself on the sounds these creatures make. Click on the "Frog Calls" button to learn more about the sounds of frogs and toads that can be found in Lexington.
