The gardening isn't done until it's on the table! Here you can see the Indian Corn that we harvested from the school garden.
Last month, students got the chance to grind corn the way Native Americans did centuries ago - using a stone or wooden mortar. Today we ground corn with a hand-cranked grain mill.
Grinding the corn was hard work!
These girls are carefully measuring the ingredients to make cornbread.
These children were overheard discussing what color the baked cornbread would become. "If yellow corn makes yellow cornbread, will the blue corn make the cornbread blue?"
The cornbread was delicious, especially since we grew the corn from seed in our own garden.
