The Maria Hastings Educational Garden
Offers Many Opportunities for Cooperative Learning

The Maria Hastings Educational Garden was created in the spring of 1999 in an effort to provide valuable opportunities for hands-on learning out-of-doors. Many educational goals and links to curriculum are being fostered through garden-based study. The most powerful cross-curricular connection to emerge so far is that between science and social studies. For example the Native American Garden is being used to enhance the study of Native American culture, foods and planting practices.
