Hastings Educational Garden - Summer 2000

Here it is early July, the wheat is bundled awaiting harvest. It must dry out a little more to prevent it from getting moldy during storage.
As saying goes, the corn is "Knee high by the fourth of July."
We have cucumber beetles eating our squash plants. Did you know that squash, cucumbers, gourds and melons are all related in the same plant family?
There is a cucumber beetle on the leaf in this photograph. It is yellow with black stripes. Click on the photo and see if you can find it.
These are our rice plants. If they look just like grass, it's because rice IS a grass! So are corn, wheat, oats, rye and barley.
