First and Second Year METCO Students
Discover Lexington - October 2000

Recently, there was much excitement as first and second year Metco students from Boston took a tour of Lexington to get acquainted with the places that their Lexington friends talk about. Some of the locations they visited include the Center Playground, the Town Pool and Tennis Courts, Marios and other familiar businesses in the town center, the Bike Path, and Hayden Recreation Centre.

Everyone was glad to finally see Hayden, and many were surprised to realize that they do the same activities at The Roxbury or Dorchester YMCA, The Boys and Girls Club, or Chez Vous (an athletic center in Boston). The Center Playground was also fun and like many parks near the childrens' homes.

Most of the children agreed that Candy Castle was their favorite stop!

Each child was given a disposable camera to take a picture at each destination. After the trip, the students took their cameras home to photograph popular locations in their own neighborhoods.

We're looking forward to them sharing their pictures with all of us. (Stay tuned to see the photos!)

This field trip was a joint effort, planned by Hastings teachers and funded by a Hastings PTA mini-grant.
